Choosing the Right Mains Charger

Not all chargers are the same, so it’s important to match the charger to your battery and how you actually use your setup. Broadly, they fall into two categories: multi-stage smart chargers and basic chargers.

Smart chargers, also known as multi-stage chargers, use controlled charging profiles to safely and efficiently charge different battery types, including Lead-acid, AGM, Gel, and Lithium. This makes them the most suitable option for modern campervan and motorhome setups.

The size of your leisure battery also determines the charger you need. Charger output (amps) affects how quickly it can recharge, larger batteries typically require higher-output chargers, especially if you want shorter charging times or are using campsite hook-ups between trips.
