The short answer is yes.
Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines use what’s known as a smart alternator. Once the starter battery is sufficiently charged, the system reduces its output voltage to improve fuel efficiency.
The issue is that this lower voltage often isn’t high enough to properly charge a leisure battery. A DC-DC charger solves this by taking that reduced voltage and boosting it to the correct level, ensuring your battery still charges effectively while you drive.
